As with most forms of training, conflict management and physical intervention training is extremely specialised, which means you need to do your research to find out what’s right for you.
However, if you’ve never heard of or come across this type of training before, knowing who to go to and which courses to select can be a real minefield.
Many of our clients come to us because we’ve been recommended to them by others, but if you haven’t got any recommendations to go on, then it can be overwhelming to find what you need. And if you’re relying on Google to give you the answer, then you might be there a while, as there are currently 1,510,000 results for the search term ‘physical intervention training.’
The last thing we want is for you to have to spend hours wading through Google’s search results. We also don’t want you to wind up booking a training course that doesn’t meet your specific requirements either.
So, what do you do? Well, one of the first things you should do is make sure you always ask your potential conflict management and/or physical intervention training provider these three key questions:
KEY QUESTION #1: Do they offer tailored sessions?
It’s important that the training you receive is bespoke to your working environment and your needs, as it’ll guarantee that what you’re taught will be relevant to you. The last thing you want is to attend a training session where you learn about lots of useful stuff, but then can’t go back to work and apply it.
Some conflict management training providers do provide generic training sessions that cater for a wide target audience and an even wider set of requirements, which works for some people. But it’s the industry-leading training providers, who have the insight and experience to provide you with training that’s bespoke to you. If you want to come out of your training session(s) with advice you can start putting into practice right away, then it’s bespoke all the way.
KEY QUESTION #2: Do they cater for your sector?
Generic physical restraint training providers tend to cater for all sectors, but it’s a broad-brush approach that can result in delegates walking away with useful, but not necessarily very practical insight and advice.
Be sure to do your homework and look at the training providers who specialise in your particular sector because they do exist. For instance, here at GoodSense Training, we’ve been providing tailored courses for the NHS, local government, transport and education sectors for more than 20 years.
Training providers who deliver bespoke training will take the time to understand your objectives and then create their courses so that they’re tailored to your needs and delivered using techniques that work best for you and your colleagues.
KEY QUESTION #3: What’s everybody else saying about them?
It goes without saying, but it’s important that you check out the training provider’s past performance and one of the best ways to do this by taking a look at what others are saying.
This can easily be achieved by taking a look at their online testimonials and any other online reviews that may have been left about them. And if you can find feedback from people who operate within your sector or area of expertise, then even better!
For instance, if you were to delve into our capabilities, then you’d discover that we’ve delivered over 5,000 courses to over 100,000 delegates. Our courses have attracted 98% positive feedback with over 5,000 of our delegates having said our courses are the best they’ve ever been on.
We hope you’ve found these questions useful and apply them next time you’re looking to book yourself or your colleagues on some conflict management and/or physical restraint training.
